Its scentific name is Hydrolycus scomberoides and is a member of aptly named dogtooth tetra fish world. The payara fish is known to attempt to eat prey half its size or more! Just a couple years ago a new record for the longest payara ever caught was set by Thomas Jeandot on the Xingu River, Brazil for a payara measuring 98 centimeters in length, I could not find specifics on the weight of this massive payara fish catch. So there are definitely more world record payara fish out there to set new payara igfa records, so everyone needs to stay vigilant and keep on chasing the dream of a huge payara catch.
